MCP6002 Second Source: COS6002SR / COS6002MR Checklist

In consumer boards, portable designs, and many cost-sensitive meter front ends, dual general-purpose op amps often mean Microchip MCP6002 (and peers such as ADI AD8542). When lead time or cost moves, evaluate the low-voltage, rail-to-rail, dual class as a second source—do not swap a vaguely similar amplifier.

Per the COSINE cross-reference, candidates include COS6002SR (SOIC-8) and COS6002MR (MSOP-8). Request datasheets from Jarwey; qualify on the bench before production.

What this class solves

MCP6002 is common on roughly 1.8–5.5 V rails that need RRIO buffering, light filtering, and sensor interfaces. If you need zero-drift / microvolt-class precision, look at COS1333 / COS8552 families instead.

How to split COS6002

COSINE PN Package Import cross-ref (guide) Product page
COS6002SR SOIC-8 MCP6002T-I/SN, MCP6002-I/SN, MCP6002T-E/SN; AD8542ARZ (same pool) 886
COS6002MR MSOP-8 MCP6002T-I/MS, MCP6002-E/MS, MCP6002T-E/MS; AD8542ARMZ (same pool) 887

Both sit in the same dual GP pool; the split is mainly package / board area. SOIC-8 vs MSOP-8 lands are not interchangeable.

6-step second-source checklist

  1. Package & pins: SOIC-8 or MSOP-8 on the current PCB?
  2. Supply window: min/max rails inside the device range.
  3. Swing: true RRIO needed? Headroom near the rails for distortion/drive.
  4. Bandwidth / slew: filter or buffer bandwidth—do not force a GP amp into high-speed line-drive duty.
  5. Offset / noise budget vs sensor full-scale (this is not a zero-drift class).
  6. Samples & lead time: pilot as second source; request datasheets from Jarwey.

Important: Cross-ref eligibility is not a pin-to-pin guarantee.

Why evaluate with Jarwey

  • Cost-effective alternate path vs imported MCP6002 / AD8542-class parts
  • Datasheet on request; sampling and small-batch delivery
  • Project follow-up on lead time and application questions
