LED strip dimmer module BL-TRIAC: 16kHz, 10kHz, or 1kHz follows the load row

Jarwey 2 2026-10-13 15:37:51

An LED strip dimmer module and a magnetic-track load are two rows on the BL-TRIAC note, not two labels for one PWM setting. Constant-voltage strip uses R19 = 10kΩ at 16kHz. Constant-voltage magnetic track uses R18 = 10kΩ at 10kHz. A constant-current luminaire is 1kHz, and the resistor cell is blank. BL-TRIAC keeps one of those rows on a given module. The matching 10kΩ value does not merge R18 with R19.

Jarwey builds this TRIAC dimmer module per project. It is not catalog stock. The note does not say why the three frequencies differ, so the row follows the load name. Do not fill a resistor the note left empty, and do not pick 16kHz because it looks finer.

What the project hands over for design and delivery is a separate note: custom TRIAC dimmer module. What an imported wall quote is actually buying is the cost split. What a sample sheet freezes is the small-batch note. How leading or trailing edge enters the driver is the wiring note. Those tables stay there.

Name the driver output, then the luminaire

Constant voltage has two rows. Constant current has one. Strip takes R19. Magnetic track takes R18. The constant-current row has no resistor.

Driver output Load Resistor PWM frequency Do not copy across
TRIAC output, constant voltage LED strip R19 = 10kΩ 16kHz Not R18, and not 10kHz
TRIAC output, constant voltage Magnetic track R18 = 10kΩ 10kHz Same ohms does not make this the strip row
TRIAC output, constant current Luminaire Resistor not stated 1kHz Do not add 10kΩ, and do not retune to 10kHz or 16kHz

Fit one row. Populating R18 and R19 together does not make one module cover both a strip and a track. Leave the constant-current resistor cell empty.

Rail, duty, and curve stay off the frequency choice

The note lists these numbers. None of them chooses 16kHz, 10kHz, or 1kHz.

Item Figure in the note What it sets
Supply voltage12V min, 15V typical, 30V maxModule supply. Shared by all three rows
Supply current5mA typical, 10mA maxModule current, not the frequency row
PWM duty0% min, 100% maxDimming depth, not 16 / 10 / 1
Dim curveLogarithmic by default; a project curve can be specifiedBrightness points. A new curve does not change kHz

The path is RC filtering, op-amp conditioning, MCU AD, then the dim curve, then PWM. Power-up includes a soft start. The note says the light is fine, stable, smooth, and free of jitter. That sentence is not tied to one frequency, so it is not a reason to move a magnetic track from 10kHz to 16kHz.

The PWM pin is a second column

After the row is chosen, write where PWM leaves the module. Pin 6 is the high-voltage-side PWM. Pin 9, DIMIN/PWM OUT, drives a MOSFET directly. Both are PWM pins. Neither one replaces 16kHz, 10kHz, or 1kHz. Pin 5, SW, senses the TRIAC voltage for the leading/trailing-edge circuit. It is not the frequency selector. ACL and VCC have no pin numbers in the note; do not invent them. Auxiliary power is either the high-voltage side, VCC and GND, or the secondary side, pin 8 VDD and pin 7 AGND. That choice also leaves the kilohertz number alone.

SW and the high-voltage PWM function can be changed in software for a non-standard protocol. That change does not collapse the three rows into one. Scope for that change sits in the custom note.

A wall-box model does not select the row

The note lists panels and systems that can be evaluated on the bench: Opple leading-edge P068102, Panasonic WMY549, Legrand VRCM2, Siemens 5UH82223-NC01, Lutron leading-edge QSGR-3P, Siemens 5WG1 528-1D801, and Schneider leading-edge L5504D2A. Bench evaluation is required. None of these is an unverified drop-in. A matching panel model still needs its own strip, track, or constant-current row. A model that is not on the list does not inherit another panel's frequency.

Row checklist

  1. Write the driver output first. Constant voltage still splits into strip and magnetic track. Constant current is the luminaire row only.
  2. LED strip, constant voltage. R19 = 10kΩ, PWM 16kHz. Do not substitute R18 or 10kHz.
  3. Magnetic track, constant voltage. R18 = 10kΩ, PWM 10kHz. Equal ohms does not merge this row with the strip.
  4. Luminaire, constant current. 1kHz. Leave the resistor blank. Do not add 10kΩ or move the frequency to 10kHz or 16kHz.
  5. One row on the module. Do not mark both R18 and R19 as supported.
  6. Record supply and duty beside the row. 12V / 15V / 30V, 5mA typical and 10mA max, duty 0% to 100%. PWM exits on pin 6 or pin 9. Pin 5 SW is the phase-cut sense.
  7. Panel model is a separate bench item. P068102, WMY549, VRCM2, 5UH82223-NC01, QSGR-3P, 5WG1 528-1D801, and L5504D2A need verification. Contact Jarwey for the datasheet.
